Snakes

So this summer I have tried to go hiking at least once a week usually just after work one night a group of us will hike up to waterfall canyon it has been really good exercise. Well since sadly summer is coming to an end it is starting to get dark earlier. Last week I made it to the waterfall in record time thanks to Austin making me feel old and out of shape by asking me if I needed to rest all the time. This week the hike totally kicked my butt it felt like I had exercised in years. On the way down it was starting to get dark so we were trying to hurry but we didn't want to get too far ahead of my mom and Linda who had just made it to the top when we decided to start making our way back down. About half way down we saw a guy with a snake on a stick Jenn and Austin were totally excited to get a closer look I just wanted to get past. Apparently it was a rattlesnake and it had been coiled right by the trail and he was afraid that it would bite someone so he killed it. He cut of the head and put it under a rock since apparently rattlesnakes can still bite for 24 hrs after they are dead. He took the rest of the snake since he wanted the rattler after that I was terrified of there being a snake on the trail. We decided to go down and throw rocks at the containers and waste sometime while waiting for my Mom and Linda. Right as we got to the containers Austin saw a rattlesnake and screamed which caused me to scream and as we were trying to run away Austin was pushing me towards the snake.I already hated snakes before this hike but after seeing two snakes right of the trail I was petrified and it was starting to get really dark. I carried a rock the whole rest of the way day just in case we saw another snake and needed to throw something at it. After that Jenn was in the front of the line and I really wanted to be in the middle but since Austin is such a baby he got to be in the middle and I had to be on the end. I was right on Austin's heels the whole time and was so relieved when we finally got to the bottom. When we got to the bottom their was a guy from animal control he was talking to the guy with the rattlesnake apparently its illegal to kill rattlesnakes in Utah luckily that isn't actually the reason he was there he was there to give citations to anyone without there dog on a lease. When I got home and stopped to get the mail and I was still a bit jittery so I had to check to make sure there were no snakes outside my car before I got out and I almost checked in the bathtub for snakes before I got in it to take a shower. Luckily I think I am recovering from this very traumatic experience I only had two dreams about snakes last night and I have stopped checking for snakes everywhere I go. Hopefully tonight I won't have any dreams about snakes. I took the pictures I added on the way up to the waterfall I didn't take any on the way down because I was took busy looking for snakesAustin wasn't actually throwing a rock he was just mimicking Jenn.

I think that it is funny that Austin was willing to sacrifice anyone he could. And we all thought he was a nice kid!
