It's Been Awhile

A lot has happened since the last time that I posted. I'm going to try to get caught up and hopefully I don't miss anything. Also, I'm going private so let me know if you still want to have access to my blog.

Hunchback

First off I would like to say that I love the snow. If I have to be cold I want it to snow so that there is something good about being cold. That being said if I have to shovel one more time I am going to have a permanent hunchback. Next time we buy a house I am only looking at houses that face south. I hate facing north because our driveway never melts. I don't mind shoveling snow too much but I am constantly shoveling ice. Also, because we don't have a lawn we only have a tiny strip of grass to pile our snow on so the snow pile is up to my shoulders not. I have a really hard time throwing the snow that high without throwing it over the pile and onto the neighbors driveway. Oh and just so everyone knows Adam doesn't make me shovel. He usually shovels in the morning and cleans off my car and heats it up for me and then if it has snowed while we were at work I shovel before he gets home. I will post a picture of our snow pile when I get home.

Oklahoma

We went to Oklahoma at the beginning of December to visit my cousin Jenn and her husband Ryan. I was super excited to go because we used to hangout with Jenn and Ryan all the time. Also, I had never been to Oklahoma or Texas  We didn't really have anything planned other than going to Texas to watch the Cowboys play to Eagles. I don't like either team but I was excited to go to my first NFL game and everyone kept telling me how amazing the Cowboys stadium is. We picked this game because Ryan is an Eagles fan and normally Jenn and I cheer against any team that the Eagles play but the Cowboys are my least favorite team so I had to cheer for the Eagles. While we were there the weather was amazing. I had only brought boots because at home it was in the 30s and Jenn said that it was supposed to rain while we were there. It was in the upper 70s in Oklahoma and in the 80s in Texas. I wish I didn't bring my coat because it was just an extra thing to carry in the airport and I didn't need it. I was way surprised when we were able to go on a walk at 6 o'clock at night with short sleeve and no jacket. It was definitely a relaxing vacation not one of those vacations where you need a vacation after you get back from vacation.

Here's a few random things I noticed while in Oklahoma only some people have accents but the ones that do have really thick accents. Everyone is super polite and friendly. They have oil pumps just randomly placed all over. We went to a restaurant for dinner one night and behind the restaurant there was an oil pump. The song from Oklahoma is true the wind definitely comes sweeping down the plains but Texas was more windy than Oklahoma. They are huge Football fan. We went to dinner on Saturday night and everyone in the restaurant had on a Sooners shirt. I kind of felt like the odd man out.

Don't mind that my eyes are barely open we had to be up at 4 in the morning for our flight.

They live about 20 minutes away from Oklahoma City and the Jazz were playing the Oklahoma Thunder while we there so we decided we would go to the game. When we got to the stadium we found out that the cheapest tickets were $50.00 each and they had a partially obstructed view so we decided to just find someplace to watch the game. We went to dinner at Toby Keith Bar and Grill and it was amazing. Then we walked down the street to a bar called Tapwerks. The bar was crazy and served a ton of different types of beer. I was in awe of all the taps.
Since we went during the school semester I had to write a paper for one of my classes while we were there. I knew it would be an easy paper so I kept putting it off and putting it off eventually I had to write it like 20 minutes before we left for the game because it was do that night. I am a master at procrastination. Our seats were pretty high up but we could see everything. The screen the hangs over the feel is gigantic so you felt like you were right in the action. Unfortunately, the Cowboys won but it was close game. My mom kept text me while we were at the game and told me to go down by the TV announcer so she could see me on TV. Next time I go to an NFL game it will definitely be a Green Bay game. The plans are already in the works.

Dental Assisting

I started going to school for dental assisting in September of 2010. I finished all of the bookwork and in class training in about a year. I was pretty proud of myself because it was a self paced program and I passed a lot of people who went to class for 6 hours a day 5 days a week. I only went to class 18 hours a week because of work. When I finished the class work I had to do 300 hours of externship work at a dental office. This is where most of my frustration with the program began. I had a minor frustration before this because only one instructor knew how to teach a portion of the class and when I got to that section she was out of town for almost two week which would have been fine but I was trying to get done before Weber started so I didn't have to go to school at two places at once. I didn't really have anything to do during the time that she was gone so I basically paid to go sit at school when I could have been sleeping and anyone who knows me knows that I love to sleep. About this same time the instructor came to me and told me that it would be extremely hard for them to find an office for me to work at because of my limited availability. She also talked to me like I was an idiot which was super frustrating. I understand that she has to deal with high school students that don't actually want to be a dental assistant and just want to get out of school but I am not one of them. I have a crazy schedule because I have to pay my tuition. If I could just go to school without working I would definitely do that but since I'm an adult with bills to pay that isn't really an option for me. Plus I already understood this and would have been fine with her telling me but she made it seem like she had told me this multiple times already but this was the first time that she had mentioned it to me. I tried to be as accommodating as possible and told her I would be willing to drive as far as Bountiful to work if they could find me somewhere. When I finished the class work they informed me that they had found me an office to work at but I would need to wait about three weeks for another student to finish because they didn't want two students working at the same time. I was totally fine with this because I was going to school at Weber so it would be nice to have a day off during the week to study. Three weeks came and went and I didn't hear from the school about starting my externship. I decided to give them a little more time because maybe the other person that was working at the office needed a little bit extra time to finish their hours. I got busy with school at Weber and I finally called them after six months of not hearing about my externship and they basically said oh sorry we can't find you a place to work but if you're more than welcome to call offices to see if you can line something up. Lucky for me I have an amazing sister who was willing to call dental offices to find me a place. The first place that she found was an orthodontic office and I was super excited because I love the idea of helping people to have a perfect smile. When I called the school to let them know I had found someplace they informed me that I couldn't do all 300 hours at a specialty office so I was only able to do 50 hours and then we had to hunt for another office. My mom's cousin works at a dental office and told Robyn to call her and she would talk to the dentist and see if I could come work there. Luck was on our side again and they agreed to let me work there. I loved the office and everyone was so nice and patient and willing to let me work on patients so that I could gain experience. Overall I am happy that I did the dental assisting program and I think that it will definitely help me when I get into the dental hygiene program at Weber.

Family campout

Every year my mom's extended family has a big family camp out and it is always a blast. This year because of school and work we were only able to go up late Saturday so we missed tubing in the river but we still had a ton of fun. We got to stay in my parents tent and use their grill so it was a pretty easy camping trip for us. Adam discovered that with his camera he can set it up so we can make can run around with the flashlights and make a cool design in the picture.

Ann's kids are always so good about watching Robyn's kids especially while we were close to the river while camping.

My parents decided to go on a bike ride so I hurried and used their stuff to make dinner for Adam and me.

Don't mind that's it's the end of the summer and I don't even have the slightest tan. That's what happens to you when you work 6 days a week.

I get this from Oakley quite often. I do have to say sometimes I stick my tongue out at her first. The other night at dinner so tried to get me in trouble by telling my mom that I stuck my tongue out at her. ha ha

24th of July Parade

This was the best 24th of July parade ever! There was a slight drizzle when the parade started but it didn't bother us because my parents had brought their pop-up canopies

Taz and Jacee got recruited to hold the banner.
Whitney and Sloane both danced in the parade.

Robyn walked with them because they thought it would be super hot and that they would need lots of water to drink but since it rained they just ended up walking behind them.

All you can eat shrimp

Every year when I see the commercial for all you can eat shrimp at Red Lobster I want to go but every year Brittany and Andy go without me. :( Adam hates seafood and he complains about how bad the restaraunt smells the whole time we're there if I drag him along with me so this year I decided to plan a night to go get shrimp and anyone who wanted to go was invited. We had quite a long wait but it gave us time to visit.

To keep us entertained while we waited we hung Zoey on the coat rack.

My mom insisted on making her shrimp tails into a work of art.
We kept track of how many shrimp we ate and I learned that my eyes are bigger than my stomach.
